IDC evaluated thirteen vendors offering scale-out object-based storage products
San Francisco, CA – November 7, 2013 Scality, a software-defined storage vendor, announced that the company has been placed in the Leaders category in the IDC marketscape: Worldwide Object-Based Storage 2013 Vendor Assessment, doc #244081, published in October 2013.
IDC evaluated thirteen vendors offering scale-out object-based storage products against two sets of criteria – current capabilities and longer-term strategies that enable companies to continue providing solutions and gain market share. Product capabilities included the ability to scale capacity and performance independently, ease of storage management and the ability to manage large datasets. Other criteria included delivery and pricing models that meet customer requirements, quality of customer service, the company’s growth strategy and its demonstrated innovation and R&D productivity. IDC notes Scality’s unique multi-geo topologies, enabling the RING “to deliver a high level of service availability and data durability,” as well as Scality’s datacenter integration, via its broad range of native interfaces including file systems like NFS and SMB/CIFS, as well as CDMI, Amazon S3, openstack, Cinder.
In commenting on Scality’s placement in the Leaders category, IDC states, “This position reflects Scality’s deep understanding of what is required to be successful in the OBS [object-based storage] market segment.” The report further states, “Scality knows and understands the OBS market segment better than anyone else. It is one of the few vendors whose technology is forward looking and jives very well with the needs of this market segment, now and in the future.”
“We are pleased that IDC recognized the excellence of Scality’s RING object storage solution and the quality of our market insight that drove key design choices in architecting the RING. It is also gratifying that IDC has recognized our company’s growing market success.”
