Award to recognize the data consolidation of all local government departments on a single Storage-as-a-Service platform
SPAIN – March 1, 2023 EJIE, the ICT division of the Spanish Basque Country Regional Government has been named a finalist in the prestigious ASLAN awards for its large-scale consolidation initiative. Built on S3 object storage with Scality RING software, the new Storage-as-a Service platform is designed to help regional governments reduce costs while increasing application performance and security.
Local governments will now have a centralized repository to store all data for the Basque Country public sector services. The initiative has empowered the Basque County Regional Government to modernize its infrastructure while keeping data sovereign and protected against ransomware.
As a hybrid-cloud solution, Scality RING object storage software is at the core of the Storage-as-a-Service platform. This solution (built on HPE servers) provides a cloud-like infrastructure that keeps service levels as high as large public cloud providers like Amazon Web Services (AWS).
In addition, several features of the new platform further enhance security and efficiency for regional Governments. A new data lifecycle governance protocol was developed and will destroy older data automatically if it is no longer used or accessed. All of the cloud-like capabilities including the availability requirements for micro-services applications, web applications, and cost savings are covered. All of this has been achieved with lower energy consumption and a higher efficiency ratio and lower data center requirements. The flexible architecture allows for the ability to consume only the storage required, there is no need to provision capacity in advance. And as data volumes increase, the project can easily scale.
The Basque Government attributes the successful deployment of this project to the simplicity of the technology and the ease of integration into the existing infrastructure. Public voting for the projects named as finalists opens on March 1 and will continue until March 14. The winner will be announced at the Aslan Awards Dinner on March 22. Visit Website
